Jasper’s girls brought home hardware from the State Tennis Tournament.

The Lady Vikings finished as the Class 4A-5A state runner up behind Montgomery Academy on Tuesday in Mobile. Jasper’s boys placed third.

Jasper’s girls brought home hardware from the State Tennis Tournament.

The Lady Vikings finished as the Class 4A-5A state runner up behind Montgomery Academy on Tuesday in Mobile. Jasper’s boys placed third.

Montgomery Academy, which also won the boys championship, finished with 73 points. Jasper had 53 points followed by Randolph (39), Deshler (36) and Etowah (31).

Two Jasper girls won individual titles. At No. 3 singles, Sophia Poolos defeated Montgomery Academy’s Caroline Deale 6-0, 6-0 in the championship match. At No. 5 singles, Morgan Aldridge completed her run to the title with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Montgomery Academy’s Lucy Chapman.

The No. 2 doubles team of Amelia Poolos and Gracie Spivy also won the title, defeating Montgomery Academy 6-3, 6-4.

Jasper’s No. 1 seed Mary-Alice Pearson went 1-1 in the tournament. No. 2 Amelia Poolos dropped her first match to the eventual state champion from Etowah, No. 4 Lillian Griffin went 1-1 and No. 6 Jenna Brown went 2-1 losing to the eventual state champion from Montgomery Academy.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Pearson and Griffin went 1-1 and the No. 3 team of Sophia Poolos and Brown lost in the championship match.

The Jasper boys finished behind both Montgomery Academy (66) and Randolph (52), earning 45 points. LAMP was fourth with 37 points.

Jasper’s Alex Barber won the state title at No. 6 singles, beating Altamont’s Guy Mitchell 6-0, 6-0 in the final match.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jack Bryan and Grayson Barber lost to Montgomery Academy in the championship match.

Jasper’s top five seeds were put out by Montgomery Academy.

No. 1 Mason Woodman went 1-1 in the tournament, No.2 Grayson Barber went 2-1, No. 3 Bryan went 1-1, No. 4 Stephen Williams went 0-1 and No. 5 Conner Wesley went 3-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Woodman and Alex Barber went 2-1 and the No. 3 team of Wesley and Williams finished 2-1.
