TUSCALOOSA — The third time wasn’t the charm for the Bevill State Bears.

After winning both regular-season meetings, Bevill State fell to the Snead State Parsons on Thursday, 60-49, ending the Bears’ hopes of a conference title game in their ACCC Tournament semifinal contest at Shelton State.

In his final game for the Bears, Nelson Haskin recorded a double-double of 12 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks and a steal. Latrell Tate had 12 points and two steals and Korri Edwards contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

The two teams exchanged two-point leads through most of the first half, with Bevill taking its largest spread of the contest, 20-13, with seven minutes left until the break. The Parsons responded with an 11-4 run to close the half tied with the Bears at 24-24.

Snead State took control to open the second half with a three point basket and never lost the lead for the remainder of the game.

Down 50-38 with 7:12 left in the contest, the Bears were able to rally and draw within three points, 52-49, with 2:36 left in regulation — but another three-point basket by the Parsons and good free-throw shooting gave Snead the 60-49 win.

Bevill State finishes the year with an 18-11 record, with a second-place finish in the ACCC North Division and made its deepest playoff run since the program restarted in 2017.

On Wednesday, the team had several members receive postseason honors.  Sophomores Nelson Haskin and Latrell Tate were named to both the ACCC All-Conference and the All-North Division Teams.

Head coach Tommy Suitts was named the North Division’s Coach of the Year.
