The annual Simmons @ Sunset 5K and Fun Run is fast approaching.

This Friday, May 3, hundreds will gather at T.R. Simmons Elementary School in Jasper for the school's largest, annual fundraising event.

Simmons at Sunset 5K will begin at 6 p.m., with the fun run shortly after at 6:30 p.m. at the school, located along Viking Drive.

People may pre-register for the 5K and fun run at www.runsignup.com by searching Simmons @ Sunset. Registration for the 5K is $25 and $12 for those 18 and younger. It is $12 for all ages to participate in the fun run.

Late registration the day of the event will begin at 4:30 p.m.

A map of the 5K course can be found at www.runsignup.com, and the route is nearly three and a half miles.

Simmons at Sunset is pet friendly.

Entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, and for $5, everyone can enjoy fun festivities, such as games, small rides and bouncy houses.

"The face painting fairy will be here. They'll be a train they can ride, swings, three different types of inflatables and a teacup ride," T.R. Simmons Principal Meagan Fields said. "We will have one more ride and one more inflatable than we've seen in the past, but our route is the same as last year, and we have several of our local vendors that are coming back again this year."

Buck and Buddy's Barbecue, SnoBiz, Eastside Baptist Church and Lavish Coffee Bar are confirmed food vendors for the event.

Fields said high school groups and clubs will be helping to keep Simmons at Sunset organized.

Money raised from last year's event helped to enhance classrooms at the school, and Fields said this year's proceeds may be used to renovate a playground located at the back of the school.

Simmons at Sunset is welcome to anyone, including non-runners.

"It's a great way to support our community and our school. We are very thankful and appreciative of our sponsors," Fields said. "We also have other things to do than running, so if you want to come out and see your friends run and enjoy some good food vendors and fun out on our field, then we look forward to having everybody out."
