ADDISON — The season came to an end for four area girls basketball teams on Monday in the sub-region round of the state basketball playoffs.

Addison dropped its home game to Tanner while Jasper, Carbon Hill and Sumiton Christian each lost on the road.

Four area boys teams look to play their way into the Northwest Regional Tournament today in their sub-region matchups. Jasper hosts No. 4 Wenonah while No. 7 Oakman travels to No. 10 New Hope, Curry plays at West Morgan and Meek makes the trip to Pickens County.

Varsity Girls

Tanner 77, Addison 58

Tanner proved to be too much for Addison in their Class 2A sub-region game Monday night at Addison High School.

With a trip to the Northwest Regional Tournament on the line, the Rattlers took control down the stretch, beating the Bulldogs 77-58.

Addison, which trailed by double digits for the majority of the game, got within three points at 57-54 early in the fourth quarter after Kaylee Brummett converted a three-point play with 6:16 remaining.

Tanner closed the game on a 20-4 run.

Coach Frankie Graham’s Addison team closes the season with a 21-3 mark while Tanner (14-13) earns a trip to Wallace State-Hanceville.

The Rattlers dominated the opening quarter, turning Addison turnovers into points. Tanner’s Shauna Fletcher had eight points in the period while Amiya Redus added seven. Addison trailed 23-9 after the opening quarter, 41-26 at the half and 53-44 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs got a basket from Gracie Manley, free throws from Callie Crider, a three-pointer from Savannah Manley and Brummett’s three-point play to draw within a possession in the final quarter. Tanner made back-to-back layups to push the lead back to seven points at 61-54, starting its game-ending run.

For Addison, Brummett had 23 points, Macy Butler added 14, Savannah Manley had 11, Crider put in seven, Gracie Manley had two and Anna Grace Luker had a point.

Three Tanner players combined to score 63 points. Redus had 25 points, Fletcher added 24 and Miracle Scott had 10 of her 14 points in the final quarter.

No. 5 Pleasant Grove 75, Jasper 53

Jasper closes out the season at 19-13 following a road loss to No. 5 Pleasant Grove (25-4) in their Class 5A sub-region game Monday.

New Hope 41, Carbon Hill 24

Carbon Hill’s season ends at 15-16 after a 17-point loss to New Hope (22-9) in their Class 3A sub-region game in Madison County.

No. 2 Cold Springs 87, Sumiton Christian 24

State contender Cold Springs (28-4) made a state record 23 3-pointers in Monday’s 87-24 win over Sumiton Christian in their Class 2A sub-region game. Sumiton Christian ends the season at 11-17.
