Oakman has its new football coach.
Ryan Hall was approved as the Wildcats’ new head coach at the Walker Board of Education meeting held on Monday.
Hall replaces Mark Hastings who stepped down from his post on Jan. 14 after leading the Wildcats to the playoffs each of the last eight years.
According to Oakman Principal Patrick Gann, more than 30 coaches applied for the job.
Hall served as the Jasper junior high head football coach last year. He was also an assistant coach under both John Holladay and Heath Brunner during his time with the Vikings.
Oakman is enjoying its most successful run in school history. The Wildcats won a playoff game in seven straight seasons before losing in the first round in 2018, three days after a wall collapsed in the locker room, sending five Oakman players to the hospital.
