Robert George Lawrie, 82, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019.
Lawrie was born in San Diego, Calif. on December 24, 1936. He married Shirley Noles Lawrie in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 31, 1970. Robert was a plaster foreman for E.F. Brady, Co. in San Diego, Calif. for 13 years and John Wyland in Escondido, Calif. before starting his own commercial drywall company. He was the founder, CEO and president of "Lawrie and Co., Inc." with approximately 60 employees and when he turned 45 decided to retire, bought a motor home and started traveling all over the U.S. Robert loved NHRA drag racing (and got to see some races live while traveling), loved to watch boxing and took immaculate care of all of his cars. In 1996 he moved to Jasper to take care of wife's parents and loved living on beautiful Smith Lake.
Lawrie was preceded in death by his parents, William Geo. Lawrie and Alice M. (Joaquin-Walker) Lawrie, his father was born in Scotland and became a U.S. citizen in 1945 and his mother was born in Massachusetts and her family came to the U.S. from Portugal; brothers, William M. Lawrie and Alan F. Lawrie of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Pauline Lawrie of Encinitas, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Noles Lawrie of Smith Lake, Jasper, Ala.; daughter, Dianne Marie Lawrie and her children, Courtney Maren Lawrie, Taj Jameson Liljeberg, Conner Shea Rogers Lawrie of Morro Bay, Calif.; sister, Verna McIntyre of Oceanside, Calif.; and honorary grandson, Shane Baswell of Jasper, Ala., who he loved very much.
