The Rev. John W. Autry, 81, of Carbon Hill, passed from this life to his eternal reward surrounded by his family, in his home Sunday morning, April 19, 2020.

Autry was a minister of the gospel for more than 60 years. He pastored Philadelphia Deliverance Tabernacle on Highway 13 in Lynn for 47 years. He led countless hundreds to Christ, mentored a vast number of young ministers and showed the love of Christ to all he met. He was a talented guitar player, singer, songwriter, poet, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his church family.

He is survived by the love of his life, his best friend, travel companion and partner in ministry, his wife of 62 years, Mary Autry; his children, Shelia Pruitt, Richard Autry (Dana) and Stephanie Gray (Westley); grandchildren, Cassie Threlkeld (Brandon), Joel Gray (Salena), Kolton Autry and Karli Autry; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Threlkeld, Weston Gray and Lucas Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Mary Pauline White Autry; brother, Jimmy Dale Autry; son-in-law, Robert Pruitt; and grandson-in-law, Nick Threlkeld.

A private graveside service will be held today, April 21, 2020, at Philadelphia Deliverance Tabernacle cemetery. Officiating ministers will be Joey Vick and Kenneth Morris. A celebration of his life memorial will be held at a later announced time.

A special thank you to Kindred Hospice Care and his personal nurse, Jessica Dunn, who was with him on his homegoing.
