No. 3 Carbon Hill splits tri-match at Addison

Jasper’s top-ranked volleyball team continued its recent winning streak at Carl Cannon Coliseum on Tuesday, picking up wins over both Cordova and Cullman.

The Vikings 37-2 now head to the Shrimp Festival Tournament in Gulf Shores set for Friday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, Jasper defeated Cullman 25-21, 25-9 before taking down the Blue Devils 25-15, 25-9.

In the second match of the day, Cullman held off Cordova 23-25, 25-22, 15-13.

Jasper’s McKinley Ferguson, Alex Oliver and Tameyah Griffin combined for 41 kills on the day.

Ferguson had 15 kills, 23 assists, four aces and two blocks, Oliver had 13 kills, 13 digs and two aces, Griffin had 13 kills, two digs and a block, Jordan Gilbert had five kills and five blocks, Morgan McClendon added five kills and two digs, Kelsey Shelton had four kills and nine digs, Temperance Chatman had 23 assists, three digs and two aces and Abby Trotter had 25 digs, three assists and an ace.

No. 3 Carbon Hill goes 1-1 at Addison

Carbon Hill battled its way to a split in a tri-match at Addison on Tuesday.

Carbon Hill suffered a rare setback in the opener, falling to Class 6A Hartselle in a three-set match before holding off Addison, the No. 1 team in Class 1A, in another three-set battle.

Hartselle picked up a narrow 25-22, 21-25, 15-13 win over the Bulldogs. Against Addison, Carbon Hill dropped the first set, but rebounded for a 17-25, 25-21, 15-12 victory.

On the day, Molly Kate Atkins had a strong all-around performance with 59 assists, 19 digs, seven kills, four aces and a block, Alyssa Dutton added 26 kills, 11 digs, five blocks and two aces, Ricki Jill Burrough had 13 kills, nine digs, two aces and a block, Heather Carmichael added 12 kills, three digs, two aces and an assists while Lacey Evans had eight kills, 31 digs, three assists and an ace and Grayson Evans had eight kills, six digs, two blocks and an ace.

Also for Carbon Hill, Abby Gibson had eight digs, Abby Martin had six digs and Karlie Ratliff had five digs.

Carbon Hill (51-6) plays at the Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores this weekend.

Curry splits tri-match

Curry won a marathon five-set area match over Hayden at home Tuesday before falling to Meek.

Against Hayden, the Jackets won 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 15-9. Meek, the No. 2 team in Class 1A, defeated Curry 25-12, 25-21.

On the day, Madison Pavlovec had 95 assists, 17 digs, six aces, six kills and two blocks, Rae Ann Hall added 17 kills, six aces, two blocks and a dig, Keana Pearson had 13 kills, seven blocks, one ace and one dig, Allie Downs had 19 assists, four kills, four blocks, three aces and three digs, Savana McClendon had four digs, three kills, one block and an ace, Hanna Walker had four blocks and two kills and Desi Key had 14 digs and two aces.

Curry plays at Lynn on Monday.
