Prep Volleyball: No. 1 Jasper wins big on Senior Night

Jasper’s top-ranked volleyball team celebrated Senior Night at Carl Cannon Coliseum with a pair of lopsided wins on Thursday.

In what coach Bobby Daniels called some of their best matches of the year, Jasper defeated area foe Hayden 25-5, 25-10, 25-11 before beating Gardendale 25-10, 25-12 in the second match.

Seniors on this year’s team are McKinley Ferguson, Jordan Gilbert, Temperance Chatman, Kelsey Shelton, Cagejia Hosey, Alison Daniel and Lexie Shephard.

On the day, Ferguson had 15 kills and eight aces for Jasper (38-8), Alex Oliver had 11 kills, six blocks and four aces, Gilbert had nine kills and six blocks, Dayion Johnson had five blocks, Tryneti Chatman had four digs and three aces and Temperance Chatman added 39 assists.

Next up for Jasper is the Don Drummond Family 3rd Annual Invitational at Carl Cannon Coliseum. Matches in the 10-team tournament open at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Jasper is in Pool A with Arab, Buckhorn, Northridge and Austin. Haleyville, Homewood, Priceville, Brewer and Bob Jones make up Pool B.

No. 6 Carbon Hill beats Northside, Oakman

Carbon Hill put together a dominant effort at home on Thursday, winning a pair of matches.

The Bulldogs (24-15) defeated Northside 16-25, 25-11, 15-11 and Oakman 25-14, 25-15.

Hannah Dutton had 21 digs, 12 kills and three aces, Sam Norris 14 kills, 11 digs and one ace, Anna McGinnis added four kills, three digs and an ace and Ivie Gibbons had 37 assists, three kills and two aces.

Carbon Hill hosts Winston County and Cordova starting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
