Prep Volleyball: No. 1 Jasper sweeps tri-match

Jasper’s No. 1-ranked volleyball team picked up a pair of wins at Carl Cannon Coliseum Thursday.

The Vikings won an area match against Dora (25-13, 25-13, 25-12) and defeated Brewer (25-17, 25-8).

Jasper (27-6), which lost its first match to a state team on Tuesday at Hoover, was led by McKinley Ferguson with 15 kills, 18 aces and 20 assists, Alex Oliver had 15 kills and seven aces, Dayion Johnson had 11 kills, Jordan Gilbert had 10 kills and four blocks while Temperance Chatman had 15 digs and three aces, Kelsey Shelton had four blocks and Ali Daniel had 13 assists.

Jasper (27-6) hosts Mortimer Jordan and Lawrence County on Tuesday.

Dora dropped its match to Brewer, losing 18-25, 25-10, 15-7. For the Bulldogs (12-11), Zharia Hubbard had 23 kills, 14 digs, five blocks and two aces, Courtney Stone had 28 assists, 10 digs, three kills, two blocks and one ace, Michaela Brown added 27 digs, one kill, one block and one ace, Jasmine added Parker 27 digs and JaMya Harris had 18 digs, three aces, and two kills. Dora plays at Priceville on Saturday.

Carbon Hill goes 1-1

Carbon Hill split matches Thursday, beating Priceville and losing to Danville.

For the Bulldogs, Sam Norris had 16 digs, 14 kills and three aces, Hannah Dutton had 21 digs and eight kills and Ivie Gibbons had 24 assists and seven digs.
