Prep Volleyball: No. 1 Jasper holds Pinkout

Jasper’s volleyball team held its Pinkout Breast Cancer Awareness evening at Carl Cannon Coliseum on Tuesday, honoring cancer survivors between matches against Mortimer Jordan and Lawrence County.

Survivors recognized on the court between matches were Ruth Ware, Barbara Graham, Elizabeth Lane, Cindy Walton, Lisa Early Mack, Vernell Callahan, Febra White, Jan McDonald and Evon Black.

Jasper swept the tri-match, beating area foe Mortimer Jordan (25-10, 25-13, 25-12) and taking down Lawrence County (25-18, 25-17). 

The win puts the Vikings — ranked No. 1 in Class 5A — at 49-4 on the season.

For Jasper, McKinley Ferguson had 21 kills, seven aces and three digs, Alex Oliver had 17 kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces, Tameyah Griffin added eight kills and two blocks, Molly Kate Atkins had 29 assists, 16 digs, four aces and two kills, Abby Trotter had 29 digs and three aces, Kesley Shelton had five kills, three blocks and two digs and Morgan McClendon added three kills, one block and one ace.

Jasper plays a tri-match at Brewer on Thursday, facing the host team and Hazel Green.

Carbon Hill sweeps tri-match

Carbon Hill made quick work of both Hamilton and Haleyville in a tri-match at Haleyville on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, improved to 48-4 on the season with the sweep.

Carbon Hill took down Hamilton (25-6, 25-4) before defeating the host team (25-7, 25-18).

For the Bulldogs, Alyssa Dutton led a balanced attack with 18 kills, six digs, six aces and two assists, Grayson Evans had 15 kills, five digs, one block and one ace, Sidney Keeton added 38 assists, seven digs and one kill, Lacey Evans had six kills, 11 digs and six aces, Hannan Dutton had nine digs, five aces and one kill while Abby Martin had six kills, nine digs, two blocks and two aces. Carbon Hill plays in the Shrimp Festival Tournament starting Friday.
