GARDENDALE — Jasper’s boys quest for another state championship is underway after a dominating performance in the Class 4A-5A, Section 5 Tournament in Gardendale on Tuesday.

The Vikings swept their way through singles and won two of three doubles championships, earning their way into next week’s State Tennis Tournament in Mobile.

Jasper’s boys won the program’s 10th state title last year, running away with the Class 6A championship. This year, the Vikings are eyeing the 5A title after dropping a classification.

The Vikings finished with 60 points on Tuesday while Altamont took second with 36. Altamont will join Jasper at state as the section runner up.

Singles winners for Jasper were No. 1 Mason Woodman, No. 2 Grayson Barber, No. 3 Jack Bryan, No. 4 Stephen Williams, No. 5 Conner Wesley and No. 6 Alex Barber. In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Woodman and Alex Barber and the No. 3 team of Williams and Wesley earned section championships.

Briarwood Christian, which has not lost a head-to-head match this season will be one of the favorites in Mobile. The Lions won last year’s 4A-5A title, winning five of six singles championships and sweeping through doubles play.

Briarwood racked up 87 points, 47 ahead of second place LAMP.
