SUMITON — Gracie Ashley delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Sumiton Christian past Carbon Hill 5-4 in the Eagles’ season opener on Tuesday.

Ashley’s hit drove in Addyson Russell for what proved to be the game-winning run. Carbon Hill scored runs in the first three innings, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth. The Eagles struck for three runs in the inning to grab a 4-3 lead.

Ashley led Sumiton Christian (1-0), going 3 for 4 with two stolen bases, a run and two RBIs, Ballie Hall was 2 for 3 and Jessie Baughn finished 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI.

Hall got the win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

For Carbon Hill, Alayna Ivie was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Bailey Kelley was 2 for 3 with a run, Zana Aderholt was 1 for 4 with a run and Santana Clark was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Clark took the loss.

Both teams play again Thursday. Carbon Hill travels to Cordova and the Eagles play at Chelsea.

Allen leads Dora past Carbon Hill

Tyler Allen struck out 10 batters in five innings, leading Dora past Carbon Hill 5-2 at Cordova High School on Tuesday night.

Allen got the win, allowing just three hits and two walks.

Dora struck for two runs in the second inning, one run in the third and two more in the fifth for a 5-0 lead before Carbon Hill got on the scoreboard.

For Dora (6-3), Garrett Hogland was 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, Jake Phillips was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Sage Harper was 1 for 2 with a run, Zach Watson was 1 for 2 and both Boone Martin and Kyle Chapman scored runs.

For Carbon Hill, Braden Amerson was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, Blake Wright was 1 for 2 with a double, a run and an RBI, Laney Keeton was 1 for 2 with a double and Haden Pare was 1 for 3.

Wright took the loss on the mound, giving up two earned runs on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Dora hosts a double header against Sumiton Christian on Saturday while Carbon Hill (2-4) play at Fayette County on Monday.
