Prep Sports: Dora baseball team edges Carbon Hill 13-12

DORA — In game that featured 25 runs and 26 hits, it was a hit batter that proved to be the difference as Dora outlasted Carbon Hill 13-12 in nine innings in Friday’s matchup of county foes at Dora High School.

Dora’s Jake Phillips was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Logan Fowler for the deciding run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Carbon Hill built a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Dora (7-3) struck for six runs to tie the game at 7-7 and the home-standing Bulldogs led 9-8 going into the sixth inning.

Carbon Hill pushed across four runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead at 12-9, but Dora again rallied, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Down to its last out in the seventh, Dora’s Fowler tied the game with a single that drove in Zac Headrick and Tyler Allen. Allen had an RBI double earlier in the inning.

Three Dora players finished with four hits. Tanner Earnest was 4 for 5 with a double and three runs scored, Allen was 4 for 6 with a double, one run and four RBIs and Fowler was 4 for 7 with two runs and two RBIs. Boone Martin was 1 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Phillips was 1 for 5 with a run and two RBIs and Dakota Cobb was 1 for 2 with two runs and an RBI.

Fowler also got the win, allowing one walk in one inning of work. Hayden Bozeman got the start for Dora, allowing no earned runs while striking out five in 3 1/3 innings. Cobb went 4 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out four.

For Carbon Hill (2-6), which lost to Dora 5-2 on Tuesday, Tristan Terry was 2 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI, Matthew Wallace was 2 for 5 with two doubles, a run and three RBIs, Laney Keeton was 2 for 6 with a double and three runs, Blake Wright was 1 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs, Caleb Kilgore was 1 for 2 with a run and two RBIs, Haden Pare was 1 for 3 with two runs, Braden Amerson was 1 for 4 with a run and Kaleb Lawrence was 1 for 4.

Wright took the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Caleb Connell got the start, allowing one earned run and striking out six in 3 1/3 innings. Keeton went 4 1/3, giving up two earned runs while striking out 10.

Dora hosts Sumiton Christian in a double header starting at 11 a.m. today.

Curry Middle softball team moves to 11-0 

Curry Middle School kept its perfect season going on Friday, routing both Northside (11-1) and Haleyville (13-1) at Hamilton.

Alyssa Teel, Kenadie Richardson and Lanie West led the team at the plate. In the double header the trio combined for 13 hits and 12 runs scored.

Against Northside, West was 2 for 2 with a triple and three runs scored, Richardson was 2 for 3 with a run scored, Teel was 2 for 2 with a double, Ella Wright was 1 for 1 with a run, Brooklyn Miller was 1 for 2 with two runs, Ansley Thomas was 1 for 2 with a run, Kaydence Hutchinson was 1 for 3 with a run and Ashlyn Tucker scored two runs.

In the win over Haleyville, Teel was 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and three runs, Hutchinson was 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles and two runs, Richardson was 2 for 2 with three runs, West was 2 for 3 with two runs, Miller was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs, Tucker was 1 for 2 with a double and a run and Brinlee Clark scored two runs.

Coach Jonas Barnett’s Yellow Jackets are now 11-0 on the season.
