Oakman won five straight games on Saturday to capture the Lynn Invitational Tournament title, beating Tharptown 6-2 in the championship game.

Wildcats beat Tharptown in championship game

Oakman won five straight games on Saturday to capture the Lynn Invitational Tournament title, beating Tharptown 6-2 in the championship game. 

Bailey Webb drove in five runs in the game for the Wildcats. She had a two-run double to put Oakman up 2-1 in the first inning and she added a three-run home run two innings later.

Webb finished 2 for 2 with a run and five RBIs, Jade Bonner was 2 for 2 with two runs, Sadie Ford and Belle Burkett each  scored a run and Katelyn Makemson had an RBI.

Jessy Aston got the win, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six in four innings. 

Aston also tosssed a five-inning one-hitter in Oakman's 1-0 win over Sulligent in the semifinals. She didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  Webb doubled and scored the only run on a Ashanti Stewart RBI. Shalayiah Waid, Ford and Aston also had hits.

Earlier in the day, Oakman defeated Addison (4-1), Sulligent (17-0) and Lynn (9-0). The Wildcats split pool-play games on Friday, beating Dora (5-0) and falling  to Tharptown (4-0).

Friday's Games

Against Dora, Aston got the shutout win for the Wildcats, giving up one hit and one walk, while striking out seven batters in four innings.

At the plate for Oakman, Savannah Brown was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, an RBI, a double and a triple, Terrah Sherer went 2 for 2 with a run scored, Waid had a solo homerun, Burkett had a hit with a run scored and an RBI and Webb recorded a hit.

Jasmine Parker pitched four innings in the loss for Dora, striking out five batters.

Gracie Slate had a hit for the Bulldogs.

In the second game of the day for Oakman, the Wildcats fell to Tharptown 4-0.

Katelyn Makemson pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit, one run and striking out one batter.

Curry fares well in Patriot Classic

The Curry Yellow Jackets went 3-1-1 against stiff competition in the Patriot Classic over the weekend. 

Thompson 6, Curry 4

Mak Miller pitched four innings in the 6-4 loss to Thompson, recording three strikeouts.

At the plate, Alayna Key went a flawless 3 for 3 with two runs scored, Katie Jo Richardson was 2 for 2 with an RBI, Ambrey Taylor recorded a double with a run scored, Kylee Trotter had a triple with an RBI, Rae Ann Hall recorded a hit, Katelyn Scola scored a run and Linley Tubbs had two RBIs.

Curry 3, Hillcrest 2

Hall drove in Trotter in the top of the sixth inning to help push the Yellow Jackets past Hillcrest, 3-2.

In the win, Miller pitched six innings, giving up one earned run and striking out two batters.

Offensively,  Hall was a perfect 3 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, Trotter had a hit with a run scored, Freeman recorded a hit with an RBI and Lawson scored a run.

Curry 6, Lamar County 5

Miller got the win against the Bulldogs, giving up four hit and striking out five batters in five innings.

At the plate, Tubbs went 2 for 2 with a run scored, two RBIs, a double and a triple, Freeman was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a double, Taylor went 2 for 3 with a double, Richardson recorded a double with an RBI, Hall had a double with a run scored, Key scored a run with an RBI, Laycee Cordell recorded a hit with a run scored and Scola and Taylor Mancome each had a run.

Friday's Games

Curry 11, Northside 2

The Yellow Jackets opened the Hillcrest Patriot Classic with an 11-2 win over the Northside Rams.

Mak Miller got the win in the circle, giving up one hit and striking out five batters in four innings.

At the plate, Key went 2 for 3 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs, Lawson was 2 for 3 with a run scored, Taylor recorded a triple with a run scored and three RBIs, Mollie Freeman had a hit with two RBIs, Trotter recorded a hit with two runs scored and an RBI, Richardson had a hit with a run scored, Tubbs scored two runs and Allie Downs and Scola scored a run each.

Curry 2, Tuscaloosa County 2

In the 2-2 tie to Tuscaloosa County, Miller pitched four innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out six batters.

Offensively, Trotter went 2 for 2 with a run scored, Richardson had a solo home run, Downs recorded an RBI double and Hall and Freeman had a hit each.
