Jackets win behind 13-run inning

SUMITON — Corner exploded for a 13-run fourth inning on its way to a 19-4 five-inning victory at Sumiton Christian on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets sent 18 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, taking advantage of seven hits, four walks and four errors.

Sumiton Christian led 3-2 after the second inning. Corner took control with a four-run third inning.

Ivey Hill picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets, pitching three innings with three hits, three runs and striking out one batter. Anna Hinkle pitched one inning in relief, giving up a hit, a run and recording one strikeout.

Offensively for Corner (16-6), Jaden Goodwin was a perfect 4 for 4 with four runs scored and an RBI, Jiselle Woodson was also perfect at 3 for 3 with four runs scored and an RBI, Lauren Higginbotham went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Hinkle was 1 for 2 with a run scored, Hill had a hit with three runs scored, Mackenzie Self recorded a hit with a run scored and two RBIs, Shauna Kelley had a hit with a run scored, Dakota Parker and Alyssa Cox scored two runs each, Brantly Bonds scored two runs, Lauren Dill recorded an RBI with a run scored and Ashlynn Martin scored a run.

Anna Calloway pitched two and two-thirds innings for the Eagles (18-13-1) with five strikeouts. Mak Miller and Alli Hollis both pitched two-third innings.

At the plate, Amber Hayes and Zana Aderholt went 1 for 2 with a run scored, Calloway and Hollis had one hit each, Jessie Baughan recorded an RBI and Miller had a run.

Jasper 11, Dora 8

Jasper’s softball team picked up an area win at Dora on Thursday, beating the Bulldogs 11-8.

Lakelyn Turnbow was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.

At the plate, Tryneti Chatman had two singles, Blake Burton had a single and a sacrifice fly, Lilli Ergle had two singles and a double, Khloe Kimbrell added a double, Consondria Clay had two singles, Maylen Sargent had a single and Mattie Hice had a single and a double.

Jasper heads to the Lamar County tournament today with games set for 2 and 4 p.m.

Varsity Baseball

Oakman 5, Lamar County 3

Oakman pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead and defeat Lamar County 5-3 at Oakman High School on Thursday.

Lamar County struck for two runs in the first inning and one in the fourth.

Brayden Ray’s two-run double with two outs in the fifth proved to be the difference. With Oakman trailing 3-2, Ray doubled to right field scoring both Kaden Jordan and Chase Moody to put the Wildcats up for good. Ray scored later in the inning.

Oakman scored single runs in the first and fourth innings before taking control in the fifth.

For the Wildcats, who only had three hits in the game, Ray was 2 for 3 with a double, a stolen base, a run and two RBIs, Sawyer Thompson was 1 for 1 with two walks and an RBI. Moody scored two runs, both JonDawson Tittle and Jordan scored a run and Sam Smith had an RBI.

Thompson picked up the win, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks with one strikeout in six innings.

Oakman (12-8) plays a double header at Tuscaloosa County on Saturday.
