Prep Softball: Cordova wins area opener

CORDOVA — The Cordova Blue Devils picked up their first Class 4A, Area 10 victory over the Good Hope Raiders, 5-2, on Monday at Cordova.

Raven Clark pitched seven innings in the win, giving up one earned run, two walks and five hits, while striking out nine batters.

The game was tied 1-1 going into the fourth inning. Cordova struck for two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. With two outs, Mary Grayson Kilpatrick walked and promptly stole second base.

Haley Hann followed with an RBI double to left field, driving in Kilpatrick. Hyche then drove in Hann with an RBI?double of her own, putting the Blue Devils up 3-1. 

Cordova (11-5, 1-0) added two insurance runs in the sixth. Kilpatrick singled and scored on Hann’s RBI hit. Hann later scored on an Abby Sargent sacrifice fly. 

For the Blue Devils, Emma Hyche went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Clark was 2 for 3 with two doubles, Meagan Hicks was 2 for 3 with a run scored, Sargent went 2 for 4 with a double, Kilpatrick recorded a triple with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, Hann had a double with a run scored and an RBI, Kailey Johnson recorded a hit with an RBI and Anna Key had a hit with a run scored.

The Blue Devils will host the Meek Tigers today at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on www.mountaineagle.com.
