CURRY — Cordova clinched a spot in next week's regional tournament with a 4-2 win over Curry on Monday night in the Class 4A, Area 11 Tournament at Curry High School.

Curry faces Haleyville in elimination game

CURRY — Cordova clinched a spot in next week's regional tournament with a 4-2 win over Curry on Monday night in the Class 4A, Area 11 Tournament at Curry High School.

Both No. 1 seed Curry and No. 2 seed Cordova won their openers, setting up a semifinal game that started after 9 p.m. Monday.

Cordova picked up the win behind pitcher Raven Clark.

The top two teams from each area tournament advance to the regional tournament.

Curry opens play in the two-day tournament against Haleyville at 3 p.m. today in an elimination game. The winner takes on Cordova at 5 p.m. If Cordova loses, the teams will play again at 7 p.m.

Haleyville eliminated Fayette County on Monday night with an 11-5 win over the Lady Tigers.

Curry 12, Fayette Co. 4

Alea Freeman got the win for the Yellow Jackets, pitching seven innings with five hits, a walk and four runs while striking out three batters.

At the plate, Laycee Cordell went a perfect 4 for 4 with two runs scored, two doubles and three RBIs, Mollie Freeman was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and a double, Alayna Key went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Katie Richardson was 2 for 3, Rae Ann Hall went 1 for 3 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs, Allie Downs was 1 for 2 with a run scored, Linley Tubbs had a hit with a run scored and three RBIs, Katelun Scola recorded a hit with a run scored and Maggie Lawson scored a run.

Cordova 5, Haleyville 1

Raven Clark pitched seven innings in the win for Cordova, giving up eight hits, one run and a walk, while striking out five batters.

Offensively, Haley Hann went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Kailey Johnson was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double, Emma Hyche went 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI, Jaqulyn Braswell was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Gracie Trotter went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Lillian Werling was 1 for 1 with two RBIs.
