Prep Basketball: Yellow Jackets earn sweep of Oak Grove

Luke Smith made seven 3-pointers and Blake Darty recorded a double-double as the Curry Yellow Jackets knocked off Oak Grove 67-45 on Monday at Curry High School.

Curry managed just four points in the opening quarter as the Tigers took a 7-4 lead, but the Jackets erupted for 22 points in the second quarter led by Smith and Darty.

Smith made three 3-pointers in the quarter while Darty scored eight points for a 26-18 Curry lead at the half.

The Yellow Jackets (13-6) pulled away in the third quarter with Smith making two more 3-pointers and Darty scoring six points.

Smith finished with 23 points, Darty had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Curry hosts Cordova in area game on Thursday.

Varsity Girls

Curry 57, Oak Grove 4

Curry overwhelmed Oak Grove 57-4 in the girls game on Monday, taking control of the game early.

The Yellow Jackets led 25-0 after the first quarter, 43-4 at the half and 54-4 after three quarters.

For Curry, Abbey Moon had 12 points, Alayna Key and Emma Martin each had eight and Allie Downs, Anna Reese Woodley and Morgan Davidson each had seven.

Sumiton Christian 70, Victory Christian 35

Isaiah Wright and Ethan Morgan led the Sumiton Christian Eagles to a 70-35 rout of Victory Christian on Monday at Sumiton.

The Eagles led 15-10 after the opening quarter and pulled away from there. Sumiton Christian led 34-16 at the half and pushed the lead to 53-29 after three quarters.

Wright led the way with 18 points while Morgan put in 15 for the Eagles (13-5).

Sumiton Christian hosts Altamont in an area game today.

Varsity Boys

Lynn 67, Addison 62 OT

Lynn earned an overtime win at Addison on Monday, winning 67-62.

The game was tied 57-57 at the end of regulation. Lynn led 20-14 after the first quarter. Addison took a 33-31 lead into the half and the Bears regained the lead at 48-44 after three quarters.

Noah Jackson paced the Bears (11-8) with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Lance Harris added 14 points and Brandon Hill put in 12 points.

Dora 58, Fayette County 47

Nine different players scored points for Dora as the Bulldogs picked up a 58-47 win at Fayette County on Monday night, evening their record at 10-10.

Brent Geeter got Dora off and running, burying two 3-pointers and scoring eight points in the opening quarter.

Dora led 16-7 after a quarter of play and 30-20 at the half. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the third quarter, taking a 40-28 lead into the final quarter.

Geeter finished with 11 points, Jamaal Harris added 10 and Averiun Berry put in nine.

Gardendale 59, Jasper 45

Gardendale controlled the second half, rallying for a 59-45 home win over Jasper on Monday night.

The Vikings held the lead through two quarters, but was outscored 38-19 in the second half.

Jasper held a 26-21 halftime lead, but the Rockets put 20 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter for a 41-38 lead going into the final quarter.

Ryan Thaler scored 11 points for the Vikings (8-13) while Harrison Saunders put in nine points and John David Harrell added seven.

For Gardendale, Jalen Moore had 21 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter. Shamarius Cook had 14 points.

Jasper hosts Hamilton today.
