Prep Basketball: Oakman edges Dora, 77-75

Peyton Hill and Skyler Hice combined for 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Oakman Wildcats earned a narrow 77-75 home victory over Dora on Tuesday night. The Wildcats struggled to get their offense going through the first two quarters before erupting for 50 points in the second half. Dora led by three points going into the fourth quarter, 54-51, but the Bulldogs were outscored 26-21 in the final quarter. Hill led Oakman with 21 points while Hice had 19, with 17 coming in the second half, and Andrew Bone put in 17 points. Dora (4-6) was done in at the free throw line, missing nine shots in the fourth quarter. For the Bulldogs, Averiun Berry was 9 of 11 at the free throw line and Brent Geeter was 6 of 6. The rest of the team combined to go 0 of 17. Oakman (3-1) got nine points from Bone in the first quarter as the Wildcats built a 14-12 lead. Dora dominated the second period, with both Jacory Woods and Berry putting in nine points. The Bulldogs took a 36-27 lead into the half. Oakman got hot from behind the arc in the third quarter. Hill and Hice both connected on a pair of 3-pointers and Kahlil Wallace added another as the Wildcats closed the Dora lead to 54-51. Hice, Hill and Christian Hubbard each made 3-pointers in the final quarter. Wallace finished with 10 points for Oakman while Hubbard added nine. For Dora, Woods led the team with 21 points, Berry had 19 and Geeter put in 10. Oakman plays a Class 3A, Area 12 game at Carbon Hill on Friday while Dora plays at Carbon Hill on Monday. ——— No. 3 Cordova 82, Fayette County 58 Isaac Chatman had a monster game, recording 29 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks, as the Cordova Blue Devils picked up a lopsided 82-58 win at Fayette County on Tuesday. Cordova (6-1) led 15-13 after the first quarter and put the game away in the second period, outscoring the Tigers 21-8 to take a 36-21 halftime lead. The Blue Devils led 54-35 after three quarters. Jayce Willingham, coming off a 56-point game against South Lamar on Monday, finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Demetrius Kirk had 12 points and nine assists and Dylan Hendrix put in 10 points. Cordova plays at Westminster Christian in Huntsville on Thursday.

The 10th-ranked Tigers controlled the game from the start, leading 15-6 after the first quarter and 34-17 at the half. Meek took a 48-27 lead into the final quarter. For the Tigers, Jacob Woodard and Luke Sherer had 12 points. Lynn’s Noah Jackson had 19 points and Jake Byrum added 14. Meek hosts Falkville on Thursday.
