Prep Basketball: Oakman earns sweep of Fayette County


Christian Hubbard and Skyler Hice combined for 52 points, leading the Oakman Wildcats to a 78-60 road win over Fayette County on Monday night.

Fayette County held a 36-33 lead at the half, but was outscored 45-24 over the final two quarters.

Hubbard and Hice helped Oakman grab the lead in the third quarter. Hubbard put in 10 points while Hice added eight. The Wildcats (3-0) led 59-53 going into the fourth.

Hubbard led all scorers with 28 points while Hice put in 24.

For Fayette County, Harrison Whitley had 21 points and Trevor Billups added 15 points.

Oakman plays at Marion County today. The Wildcats return home for a game against Holy Spirit on Friday.


Oakman girls 58, Fayette County 36

Oakman held Fayette County to one point in the first quarter en route to a 58-36 road win at Fayette on Monday.

The Wildcats (3-0) led 14-1 after the first quarter, 25-14 at the half and 42-22 after three quarters.

Iyana Canada led all scorers with 24 points, Alaisha Hubbard put in 17 and Shalayila Waid added 10.


Curry girls 49, Corner 43

Morgan Davidson scored 14 points in the second half to lead Curry to a 49-43 victory over Corner on Monday at Curry High School.

The Yellow Jackets held Corner leading scorer Jiselle Woodson to just four points in the second half as they avenged a loss to Corner in the championship game of the Curry Girls Thanksgiving Tournament last week.

Monday’s game was close throughout. Curry held a 15-12 lead after the first quarter, Corner bounced back for a 25-24 lead at the half and Curry took a 37-36 lead into the final quarter.

Davidson finished with 17 points for Curry and Abbey Moon added 15 and 11 rebounds. For Corner, Woodson had 21 points. Curry (3-2) plays at Northside tomorrow while Corner hosts Winfield.


West Point 55, Jasper 53

West Point built a double-digit halftime lead and held off Jasper for a 55-53 win at West Point on Monday night.

The Warriors led 19-13 after the first quarter and pushed their lead to 36-25 at the half. Jasper held West Point to just 19 points in the second half.

Jasper trailed 45-38 going into the final quarter.

Four Vikings scored in double figures. Ryan Thaler had 14 points, John David Harrell put in 13, Antoine Harris had 11 and Trinity Epps put in 10.

Jasper (2-1) host Russellville today.


Dora boys 53, Thompson 51

Dora handed Class 7A Thompson its first loss of the season on Monday, edging the Warriors 53-51 on the road.

The Bulldogs trailed 43-41 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Thompson 12-8 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

The teams traded the lead throughout the game with Dora leading 12-8 after the first quarter and Thompson leading 29-26 at the half. For Dora (2-2), Brent Geeter had 17 points while both Averiun Berry and JaCory Woods added seven points.

The Bulldogs hit the road for a game at Hueytown tonight.
