SUMITON — Kevin Chino's 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining capped a frenzied fourth-quarter rally to give the Meek Tigers a 51-50 road victory over Sumiton Christian on Thursday night.

Meek trailed by as many as 11 points in the final quarter and was down by nine points at 50-41 with only 1:18 remaining before closing the game with a 10-0 run to shock the Eagles.

Meek's Caleb Aaron made a basket and a pair of free throws to cut the Sumiton Christian lead to 50-45 with 59 seconds remaining. Following a steal, Chino connected for a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left to make the score 50-48. After Chino's 3-pointer to put Meek ahead, Sumiton Christian desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.

Meek led 14-10 after the first quarter and 24-22 at the half. The teams were tied at 33-33 after three quarters.

The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run. Sumiton Christian's Josh Marshall closed out the run with back-to-back baskets and a 42-33 lead with 5:13 left.

Chino's first 3-pointer of the quarter cut the gap to four points at 42-38. Later in the quarter, Jeremy Brown scored six straight points for the Eagles as they pushed the lead to 11 points at 49-38 with 1:59 left.

Payton Key paced Meek (17-7) with 17 points, Chino made five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and Aaron added 14.

For Sumiton Christian (14-6), Brown had 10 points, Ethan Morgan added eight points and Judson Laird had seven.

The Eagles play at Berry today.

Sumiton Christian 42, Meek 39

Sumiton Christian built a big lead and held off Meek for a 42-39 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Zana Aderholt paced the Eagles with 16 points while Amber Hayes added 14.

Varsity Boys

Curry 39, Cordova 30

Curry dominated the fourth quarter, making up a five-point deficit and beating Cordova 39-30 in their area matchup on Thursday night.

Cordova led throughout the first three quarters. The Blue Devils got three 3-pointers from Kason Smith in the opening quarter for a 14-6 lead going into the second. Curry cut the gap to 18-14 at the half and Cordova took a 27-22 lead into the final quarter.

The Yellow Jackets outscored Cordova 17-3 over the final eight minutes.

Bradley Swindle had all six of his points in the final quarter for Curry while Luke Smith and Blake Darty each made three free throws.

Darty paced Curry (14-6, 4-1) with 16 points and eight rebounds.

For Cordova (2-10, 1-4), Kam Cooper and Kason Smith each has 12 points.

Cordova hosts Hamilton today while Curry plays at Fayette County on Tuesday.

Curry 60, Cordova 29

Morgan Davidson and Abbey Moon combined for 35 points to lead Curry to a 60-29 home win over Cordova on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets led 17-10 after the opening quarter, 36-18 at the half and 51-27 after three quarters.

Davidson finished with 18 points and eight assists for Curry (12-9, 4-1), Abbey Moon had a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds and Laycee Cordell added seven points.

For Cordova (1-9, 0-5), McKinsey Boteler had 18 points.

Varsity Boys

No. 10 Oakman 86, Tarrant 67

Oakman's trio of Skylar Hice, DJ Roberts and Christian Hubbard combined for 73 points to lead the Wildcats to an 86-67 win over Tarrant on Thursday.

The game was close through three quarters. Tarrant led Oakman 21-18 after the first quarter. The Wildcats led 34-31 at the half and 58-55 after three quarters.

Oakman (13-3) pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Tarrant 28-12.

Hice had 15 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, both Hubbard and Roberts had 23 points and AJ Odom put in eight.

Oakman hosts Marion County on Saturday.

Varsity Girls

Oakman 53, Tarrant 21

Oakman earned its 10th win of the season on Thursday, routing Tarrant 53-21 in the varsity girls game.

Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats. Both Alaisha Hubbard and Chante Williams had 12 points while both Iyana Canada and Shalayiah Ward had 11 points.

Oakman (10-3) took a commanding 23-6 lead after the first quarter and led 35-13 at the half.
