Prep Basketball: Curry boys win 6th straight


CURRY — Curry turned to its defense to lead the way Tuesday night against Northside.

The Yellow Jackets delivered, holding the Rams to just five made shots in the first half, earning a 52-44 victory at Curry High School.

Curry, which pushed its winning streak to six games, led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter before making wholesale lineup changes.

The Yellow Jackets (8-5) got 3-pointers from both Hunter Wilson and Luke Smith in the opening quarter as they built a 12-6 lead. Curry put 18 points on the scoreboard in the second quarter behind six points from Jakob Hicks and five points from Colt Aaron. The Jackets led 30-15 at the half. Curry added to its lead in the third quarter with both Hicks and Blake Darty scoring four points in the period.

The Yellow Jackets took a 42-24 lead into the fourth quarter. Hicks finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Curry, Darty had 10 points and three assists, Smith had eight points, Wilson had seven points and eight rebounds and Aaron had seven points and six rebounds.

Curry’s next game comes against Westminster-Oak Mountain in the opening round of the Sumiton Christian holiday tournament on Dec. 27.


Varsity Girls

Curry 58, Northside 18

Curry jumped out to an insurmountable lead after a quarter of play, beating Northside 58-18 on Tuesday night.

The Jackets led 21-2 after the first quarter, 38-4 at the half and 51-10 after three quarters.

Abbey Moon had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Morgan Davidson added 11 points, Allie Downs put in eight and Cam Wright had seven.

The Yellow Jackets (8-6) play again on Dec. 27 against Decatur Heritage in the opening round of the Winston County Girls Christmas Tournament.


Varsity Boys

No. 3 Oakman 62, Winfield 48

Four Oakman players scored in double figures and the No. 3 Wildcats dominated the second half en route to a 62-48 home win over Winfield on Tuesday night.

Oakman got off to a slow start, scoring just six points in the first quarter as Winfield took a 10-6 lead. The Wildcats began to heat up in the second quarter with AJ Odom scoring nine points. Oakman took a 25-23 lead into the half.

From there, it was all Oakman. The Wildcats outscored the Pirates 37-22 in the second half.

Skylar Hice made three 3-pointers and DJ Roberts had eight points in the third quarter, giving Oakman a 48-39 lead going into the fourth quarter. Winfield made just two baskets in the final period.

Roberts led Oakman with 19 points, Christian Hubbard added 15 and both Odom and Hice had 13 points.

Luke Jungels had 21 points for Winfield.

Oakman (8-1, 3-0) plays Locust Fork on Dec. 27 in the opening round of the Locust Fork Holiday Classic.


Varsity Boys

Hamilton 64,Jasper 55

Hamilton held off a valiant effort by Jasper in a 64-55 win over the Vikings Tuesday at Hamilton High School.

Jasper got 25 points from John David Harrell in the game.

The Vikings trailed 17-15 after the first quarter and 28-24 at the half. Jasper kept things close at 48-44 going into the fourth quarter.

Justin Webb had 21 points for Hamilton (12-1).

Jasper (3-8) plays at Dora in an area game on Friday.
