Downs, Moon lead Curry girls to win

CARBON HILL — Carbon Hill dominated the second half en route to a 52-35 home victory over Curry on Tuesday night.
 
The teams were tied at 22-22 at the half.
 
Carbon Hill outscored the Jackets 30-13 over the final two quarters to earn the lopsided win. The Bulldogs led 37-26 after three quarters.
 
Both Zac Lawhorn and Clay Cerezo scored 13 points to pace the Bulldogs while Matthew Wallace had nine, Ishmael Jones put in seven, Bryson Prince and Haden Pare had three points and Alex Atkins and Josh Kilgore each added two.
 
For Curry, Luke Smith, who scored his 1,000th career point in the game, had a game high 17 points, Weston Horton had six, Brody Naramore added four, Brody Hallman and Ethan Wideman each had three and Andrew Stewart added two.
 
Carbon Hill (13-14) hosts Corner on Friday. Curry (7-15) hosts Winston County on Thursday.

Varsity Girls
Curry 56, Carbon Hill 40
 
In a rematch of Saturday’s Walker County Tournament championship game the Curry girls jumped out to a big lead and knocked off Carbon Hill 56-40 on the road Tuesday.
 
Curry (17-7), which fell to Carbon Hill 47-44 in the championship game, led 19-0 before the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard.
 
The Yellow Jackets led 10-0 after the first quarter, 23-7 at the half and 34-18 after three quarters. 
 
Allie Downs made five 3-pointers and had 19 points while Alley Moon had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Curry. Both Anna Reese Woodley and Emma Martin had five points while Cam Wright and Laycee Cordell each had four.
 
For Carbon Hill (13-14), Alayna Ivie had 14 points, Ally Martin added nine, Bailey Kelley had six, Zana Aderholt put in four and Katie Halbrook had a point.
