Jasper need to take care of business at Minor Thursday to earn an area championship. Chase Cross and Zac Durham did just that, holding the Tigers to a pair of runs in 17-1 and 15-1 victories.

Minor struck first in their Class 6A, Area 11 series on Tuesday, beating Jasper 7-3 at Valley Park, leaving the Vikings with no room for error. With Thursday’s sweep, Jasper will host a first-round playoff series on Friday, April 20.

The Vikings came out on fire Thursday.

Jasper (20-12, 5-1) scored three runs in both the second and third innings and pushed across eight runs in the fourth, in the opener.

On the mound, Cross tossed a five-inning no hitter, allowing no walks and striking out eight.

Minor scored one run courtesy of Jasper errors.

At the plate, nine different players had hits for Jasper.  Dalton Turnbow was 3 for 3 with a run and three RBI, Pacey Gillott was 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI, Landon Nix was 2 for 3 with three stolen bases, three runs and an RBI, Will Herring was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Kaden Shelton was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Durham was 1 for 3 with three runs and an RBI, Tyler Thomasson was 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Slade Harbin was 1 for 3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs.

Jasper continued its onslaught in the second game, Minor led 1-0 after the first inning, but the Vikings scored five runs in the second inning and eight more in the third.

Durham went all five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Harbin was 2 for 4 with a double, one run and four RBIs, Thomasson was 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs, Shelton was 1 for 3 with a run, Durham was 1 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, Gillott was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI, Ryan Willcutt scored three runs and Nix scored two runs.

The Vikings went 2-0 on Wednesday, beating Sumiton Christian 10-1 and Jackson-Olin 19-2 in five innings.

Jasper recognized its seven seniors — Lane Clark, Chase Cross, Will Dobbs, Brady Jett, Will Herring, Ben Stallsmith and Dalton Turnbow — between games.

Jasper closes out the regular season with a road game at Hueytown on Monday.
