Prep Baseball: Jasper splits DH with Springville

Jasper split a double header at Springville on Friday, beating the Tigers 5-1 in the opener and dropping the second game 4-3.
 
In the first game, Carson Alvis and Kaden Shelton hit home runs as the Vikings picked up the win.
 
No. 8 Jasper (11-5) got single runs in the first, second and fourth innings to build a 3-1 lead. They added their final two runs in the seventh on solo home runs from Alvis and Shelton.
 
Tyler Thomasson earned the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out five in five innings. Seth Davidson got the save, going the final 1 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out two.
 
Alvis finished 2 for 2 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI, Shelton was 2 for 4 with a home run, both Jon Burton and Mayson Slaughter were 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Ayden Payne was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Thomasson was 1 for 4 with a run. 
 
In the second game, Springville got the walk-off win on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers won even though they had just two hits in the game.
 
Nick Keeton got the loss despite not allowing a hit. He gave up one unearned run on three walks while striking out five in 3 2/3 innings. Braxton Turnbow got the start, giving up two runs in 2/3 innings. Cade Mitchell allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings and Topher Wilson went 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. 
 
Offensively, Peyton Thomasson was 3 for 4 with a run, Tyler Thomasson was 2 for 4 with a double, Carson Alvis was 1 for 1 with a double, two stolen bases and two runs, Connor Whitley was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Burton was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
 
Jasper is scheduled to play an area game at Dora on Tuesday.
