Prep Baseball: Eagles get on track with rout of Shades Valley

All nine Sumiton Christian starters recorded hits as the Eagles earned a 14-4, six-inning win over Shades Valley on Tuesday at Blair Field.

Sumiton Christian, which had lost four straight games, had 17 hits with six players recording multiple hits.

Landon Shumate was 3 for 4 with a run and three RBIs, Tyler Ingle was 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and four RBIs, Sam Shumate was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, Jace Barrentine was 2 for 5 with three runs, Griffin Myers was 2 for 4 with a double and three runs, Corbin Hicks was 2 for 4 with a run, Josh Allred was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Ashton Whiten was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI and Sam Nix was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Myers got the win in relief, allowing two walks and striking out one in 2 1/3 innings.

The Eagles (7-7) host Jasper on Thursday.

Sumiton Christian’s JV team also defeated Shades Valley, winning 4-2. Ashton Skalnik went all five innings, striking out four.

Ty Weldon had a hit and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Haleyville 1, Jasper 0

Haleyville won a pitcher’s duel over Jasper on Tuesday at Haleyville High School, beating the Vikings 1-0.

Tyler Morrison got the start for Jasper and allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings. Seth Davidson went 2/3 innings, striking out two.

Brantson Lambert shut down Jasper, holding the Vikings to two hits and striking out seven.

Offensively, Lambert had an RBI double in the third inning, driving in the game’s only run.

Jasper (9-4) is scheduled to play at Sumiton Christian on Thursday.

Winfield 11, Oakman 1, five innings

Oakman was held to three hits in an 11-1, six-inning road loss to Winfield on Tuesday.

The Pirates took control early, scoring nine runs over the first three innings.

For the Wildcats, Logan Martin was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Dawson Crowell was 1 for 1 and Jy Henderson scored a run.

Chase Moody suffered the loss, allowing six runs, one earned, in 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout.

Jack Williamson got the win for the Pirates, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings.

Oakman (6-3) hosts Hanceville on Thursday.
