Prep Baseball: Cordova closes in on area title

Cordova moved within one victory of an area championship on Tuesday, beating Good Hope 5-2 on the road

Cordova pitchers Zakye Holiday and Mason Robertson combined to strikeout 10 batters in the game. 

Holiday earned the win, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out eight in five innings. Robertson finished the game off, allowing an unearned run and striking out two in two innings.

The Blue Devils took control of the game in the fourth inning, scoring three runs for a 3-1 lead. Zac James scored the first run on a passed ball and Nathan Bullocks drove in two runs with a single. Cordova added two more runs in the fifth on a Bradley Brooks two-run single for a 5-1 lead.

Offensively, Brooks was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs, Bullocks was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Robertson was 1 for 3 with a run, Zac Bozeman  was 1 for 2, Noah Samples was 1 for 4 and Jacob Headrick, James and Brady Ireland scored runs.

Cordova can clinch the Class 4A, Area 10 title with a home win over Good Hope on Thursday.

Dora 11, Carbon Hill 6

Dora sent 11 men to the plate, scoring six runs in the third inning en route to an 11-6 win at Carbon?Hill on Tuesday.

The home-standing Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the second inning, but Dora took control just an inning later.

Tyler Goodwin was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs for Dora, which totaled 17 hits in the game. Cole Hargrove was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Tanner Earnest was 2 for 4 and Jaymon Parker was 3 for 4.

Parker also earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one earned run in five innings while striking out seven.

For Carbon?Hill, Brayden Wright took the loss and had a pair of hits. Ty Brooks and Landon Bice added hits.

Dora also earned a victory on Monday, beating Parker 10-5 on the road. 

Jaymon Parker was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for Dora, Goodwin was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and Andrew Rhodes was 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Breckton Wilkinson earned the win, allowing four earned runs and striking out five in six innings.

Dora (12-13) plays at Sumiton Christian on Saturday.

Carbon?Hill (8-9) hosts Meek on Friday.
