Prep Baaketball: Carbon Hill earns sweep of Lamar County


Isaac Woodard scored 20 points, including 16 in the second half to lead Carbon Hill to a 62-60 area win over Lamar County at home on Tuesday night.

The win — Carbon Hill’s first in Class 3A, Area 10 — avenged an area loss at Lamar County earlier this season.

Carbon Hill led 16-11 after the first quarter. Lamar County scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 32-30 halftime lead.

Woodard connected on three 3-pointers in the third quarter and Braden Wright added four points as Carbon Hill regained the lead at 49-45 going into the final quarter.

Woodard added seven more points in the fourth quarter.

Carson McGinnis had 13 points for Carbon Hill (7-10, 1-2) while Wright put in 10. Both Dillon Roberts and Gage Jean added six points. For Lamar County, Cordell Mastin had 19 points.

Carbon Hill hosts Winfield in a key area matchup on Friday.


Varsity Girls

Carbon Hill 63, Lamar County 31

Carbon Hill’s girls cruised to an area, home win over Lamar County on Tuesday, picking up a 63-31 victory.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the opening quarter and took a 38-15 lead into the half.

Lacey Evans had 17 points, six rebounds and six steals, Abby Martin had 15 points and six assists, Allie Parr added 10 points, Ally Martin had six points and Gracie Wyma put in four for Carbon Hill.

Carbon Hill (14-5, 2-1) hosts undefeated Winfield on Friday.


Varsity Boys

Mortimer Jordan 50, Jasper 30

Jasper struggled to put points on the board in a 50-30 area road loss to Mortimer Jordan on Tuesday.

The Blue Devils led 12-1 after the first quarter and 24-7 at the half. Mortimer Jordan took a 40-23 lead into the final quarter.

John David Harrell had nine points to lead Jasper (7-11, 2-4), Trinity Epps and Harrison Saunders each had seven and Jase Barrentine added six.

The Vikings host Hayden in an area game on Friday.


Varsity Boys

Dora 54, Cordova 31

Ten Dora players scored points as the Bulldogs earned a lopsided home win over Cordova in their county matchup on Tuesday.

Dora led 7-0 after the opening quarter and 20-8 at the half. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 37-16 after three quarters.

Brent Geeter had 12 points for Dora, JaCory Woods had eight and both Jaymon Parker and Kavin Towns added seven. For Cordova, Kam Cooper had 17 points and Kason Smith added seven.


Varsity Boys

Sumiton Christian 50, Tarrant 44

Four Sumiton Christian players scored in double figures on Tuesday in a 50-44 area win over Tarrant at home.

Ethan Morgan paced the Eagles (12-4, 2-0) with 13 points while Isaiah Wright had 11 points and both Jeremy Brown and Judson Laird added 10.

The Eagles led 23-18 at the half and 34-31 after three quarters.

Sumiton Christian also picked up a 58-50 area overtime win at Altamont last Friday.

Wright had 29 points in the game while Laird up in 10.

Sumiton Christian hosts Vincent on Friday in another area matchup.
