Pickens County jumped out to an early lead over Meek and controlled the game from there, earing a 35-7 win in their first-round playoff game in Reform Friday night.

Pickens County eliminates Meek, 35-7

Pickens County jumped out to an early lead over Meek and controlled the game from there, earing a 35-7 win in their first-round playoff game in Reform Friday night.

The sixth-ranked Tornadoes, last year’s Class 1A state runner up, got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter wit a rushing touchdown for the 7-0 lead. In the second quarter, quarterback Aljaron Edwards hooked up with Elliott Petty for a 10-yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 halftime lead.

Edwards struck again late in the third quarter, scoring on a 15-yard run for a 20-0 lead.

Meek got its lone touchdown early in the fourth quarter with Haydon Twilley returning an interception for a touchdown, cutting the Pickens County lead to 20-7.

Pickens County scored the final two touchdowns.

Jacaurian Washington added a rushing touchdown and Edwards hit Tadarien McIntosh on a touchdown pass.

Meek closes the season at 7-4 in coach David Norwood’s first season with the Tigers.

Pickens County (9-2) hosts Spring Garden next week in the second round.
