Peggy H. Howse, 76, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at her residence.
Family will be receiving friends Saturday, June 29, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Curry Cemetery. The Rev. John Gates will officiate.
Peggy was born and raised up through middle school in Walker County. Her father worked as a policeman, miner, and farmer. Her mother was a stay at home mom. She had two brothers and two sisters all older. She was the baby. They moved several times and finally ended up in Fultondale, where her father was the chief of police. She finished grammar school at Lewisburg Jr High and attended high school at Tarrant High school and graduated in 1960. After graduation she worked at Jefferson County court house and at Newberry's Department Store in Birmingham. During this time, she started dating Jeff Howse whom she had known since grade school. They were married in 1963 after he joined the Air Force. While stationed in Louisiana, their first child was born. A girl named Terrie Lynn. Near the end of his first four years in service, Jeff was sent to Spain where he reenlisted for his second four year tour. Peggy was pregnant with their second child so she had stayed behind in the states until Brenda Sue was born. They finally received permission for Peggy to join Jeff after he had been moved to Germany and she flew by herself with the two children to join him. After a year in Germany they were transferred to England for two years. They were then transferred to Arizona where Jeff finished his second tour and was discharged. They moved back to Fultondale in 1970. In 1977, they moved back to Walker County to be close to her parents. While living there, she helped care for her parents until they died. She lived there with her husband of 56 years until her death. During all this time moving, she raised two beautiful girls, was a seamstress and a wonderful wife to the man she loved with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Jewel Hamilton; siblings, Lee Hamilton, Julian Hamilton, Frances Riddlesberger, and Eunice Hamilton; and in-laws, Earl and Alene Howse.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jeffery Wayne Howse; daughters, Terrie Lynn Davis (Lee) and Brenda Sue Northcutt (Keith); grandchildren, Crystal Baldassaro, Heather McKinney, Holly Barton, Thomas Barton, Allen Davis and Sarah Davis; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Pregnancy Test and Resource Center.
