Students from four Winston County middle and high schools will star in the Winston County Arts Council's upcoming production of "Cyrano de Burger Shack."
The new pop musical comedy will be performed Friday and Saturday at Looney's Tavern's Dual Destiny Theater, the former site of the state's official outdoor drama "Incident at Looney's Tavern. "
"Cyrano de Burger Shack" will feature radio hits from the '80s, '90s and today, including "We Got the Beat," "My Preogative," "Call me Maybe," "Just the Way You Are" and 15 other beloved tunes that have been re-imagined into high energy character and story songs that are emotional as well as humorous.
Directed by Double Springs native, John Bailey, the story centers around Cyrano and Roxanne, two high school seniors who have known each other since early childhood. They are best friends, but Cyrano now has a crush on Roxanne, who says she's madly in love with the new hunk in town.
Cyrano, who runs the Burger Shack after- school hangout, is quick-witted, outwardly confident, and has a way with words. He also has a larger-than-life gi-normous nose! Is Cyrano correct to realize Roxanne could never fall for him? Will the Burger Shack gang stand idly by as their friends complicate their lives? What will happen at the Senior Prom? And what's this about a fencing tournament?? Now, Winston County hasn't seen one of those lately!
Performances are scheduled for May 11 at 7 p.m. and May 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Dual Destiny Theater at Looney's Tavern, located at 24000 Hwy 278 in Double Springs. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
Tickets are available at local middle and high schools, Double Springs and Arley Public libraries, the Howse of Flowers in Addison or at the door.
