Oakman falls to Gordo in top 10 battle

OAKMAN — Gordo showed why its the No. 3 team in Class 3A on Friday night at Hosea Collins Field in Oakman.

The Green Wave scored four first-half touchdowns to build an insurmountable lead in a 47-20 victory over No. 7 Oakman in their Class 3A, Region 4 matchup.

Gordo quarterback Essie Davis had a hand in all four first-half touchdowns. He connected on touchdown strikes of 41 and 26 yards in the first five minutes of the game.

He added touchdown runs of 5 and 15 yards as Gordo took a 27-0 lead into the half.

Gordo pushed its advantage to 40-0 in the third quarter.

Oakman got on the scoreboard at the 1:26 mark of the third quarter on a Malcolm Hogue five-yard run, cutting the gap to 40-7. Gordo returned the ensuing kickoff for a score and a 47-7 lead.

Hogue added a one-yard score later in the quarter and Jon Avery hit Nick Moody on an 36-yard touchdown. For Oakman, Hogue rushed 16 times for 82 and two score. Avery completed 8 of 16 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown. Moody hauled in four passes for 77 yards.
