Varsity Boys
Oakman’s boys are the lone ranked team in the county. The Wildcats (15-5) hold down the No. 8 spot in Class 3A.
Oakman recently split games with Class 6A Hueytown, winning 84-81 on the road and losing 76-48 at home. The Wildcats are 3-0 against Walker County competition, beating Carbon Hill twice and Dora once.
Oakman plays its tournament opener at 8 p.m. Friday against the winner of the Dora-Cordova game.
Carbon Hill is the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs (11-13) bring a four-game losing streak into the tournament. Carbon Hill plays No. 3 seed Curry (7-13) at 5 p.m. Friday. The Yellow Jackets have also dropped four straight games.
In Thursday’s game, set to tip off at 6:45 p.m., No. 4 Dora (4-16) plays No. 5 Cordova (3-14). Dora won last year’s county championship, beating Oakman 62-53 at Cordova High School.

Varsity Girls
Curry’s girls (15-6) play their first game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday against the winner of the Cordova-Oakman game.
The Yellow Jackets are 3-2 against Walker County teams. Curry is 1-1 against Carbon Hill, 0-1 against Dora and 2-0 against Cordova. Curry went on a 10-1 run starting in early January, but the Jackets have struggled lately with losses to Corner, Fayette and Haleyville in their last four games.
Carbon Hill (11-13) is the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs have won 2 of their last 10 games going into the tournament.
Carbon Hill faces No. 3 seed Dora (7-11) at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Dora won the only meeting this season, 54-46 in early December.
In Thursday’s game, No. 4 Cordova (4-11) plays No. 5 Oakman (0-14) at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
Oakman won last year’s tournament, beating Curry 48-26 in the final.
