GOODSPRINGS — Dollar General is now serving customers in the community of Goodsprings.

The new store opened at 11254 Highway 269 on Monday and will serve residents in the community of Goodsprings who haven’t had a business to purchase groceries at in a number of years.

“Although the store has only been open for a few days, we've been well received by the community so far,” Crystal Ghassemi of Dollar General’s corporate communications office said.

The new Dollar General greets customers inside with a modern look and feel, and offers a number of well-know brands for shoppers to purchase.

“Dollar General sells quality name brand and private brand merchandise such as health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing. We also sell an assortment of packaged foods, as well as some refrigerated foods and frozen foods,” Ghassemi said. “Dollar General sells products from America's most-trusted brands such as Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola.”

The new store is one of 18 Dollar General stores in Walker County, Ghassemi said, and it will employ six to 10 people.

A grand opening for the store will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 8 a.m., and the first 50 adult customers will receive a complimentary $10 gift card. The first 200 customers will receive a Dollar General tote bag filled with product samples.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority. The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” Ghassemi said. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers' shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or 10 minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration, so we hope our new, convenient location will help Parrish residents save time and money on their purchases in our store.”

Dollar General is known for its mission to increase literacy through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which provides yearly grants to libraries, schools and nonprofits to support literacy programs. The business has awarded over $127 million.

“The Dollar General Literacy Foundation also supports customers interested in learning how to read, speak English or earn their high school equivalency test.

At the cash register of every Dollar General store, customers may pick up a brochure with a postage-paid reply card that can be mailed in for a referral to a local organization that offers free literacy services,” Ghassemi said.

Anyone who would like to work at the new Dollar General store may apply online at www.dollargeneral.com/careers.

“We're looking forward to a longstanding, positive impact in the community,” Ghassemi said.
