The Jasper City Schools Board of Education has named Jason Lipscomb as the new band director of Walker High School.

The school board made the appointment Monday night for Lipscomb to replace outgoing band director Curtis Burttram.

Lipscomb earned his master’s degree in music education from the University of North Alabama and completed his student teaching at Muscle Shoals High School, where he worked with band students in grades 6-12.

For the past 10 years, Lipscomb has been at Hueytown High School and currently serves as the band director.

Lipscomb says he has always enjoyed musical arts. When he attended Douglas High School in Douglas, Ala., he played saxophone in the school’s band.

Now 34 years old, Lipscomb says he can play many instruments.

“I’m just really excited for this opportunity,” Lipscomb said as he addressed board members and Superintendent Dr. Ann Jackson on Monday. “The band here has such a fantastic reputation, such a strong tradition, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Lipscomb will begin serving as Walker’s new band director in the fall, and will help the band transition into the new high school in January 2017.
