The Pilot Club of Jasper is paying tribute to Musgrove Country Club with its annual Christmas ornament.

Musgrove Country Club is described as “a beautiful blend of log-sturdy, pioneer spaciousness makes the clubhouse of Musgrove Country Club one of the most unique in the nation.  The original log building was completed in 1924 by Col L.B. Musgrove as a place to entertain his business associates and friends from Wall Street and over the nation.

“All of the 556 logs in the original building were cut from the 228 acres of club property.

When it became apparent to Col Musgrove he was losing his fortune in the stock market crash in 1932 he sold his country estate to 45 Walker County citizens and they formed Musgrove Country Club.

“Musgrove Country Club has grown to have an eighteen hole championship golf course, six rubico tennis courts, a full service dining room and grill, a beautiful pool and pavilion area all nestled in the rolling hills of Central Alabama.”

Other Walker County landmarks that have been represented in previous ornaments include Sherer’s Drive-in, Boshell Mill, Son’s Supermarket and Posey’s Hardware.

Ornaments are $20. Proceeds are used to benefit a number of local nonprofit organizations.

The Pilot Club released its first ornament — a replica of the Walker County Courthouse — in 2002.

Club members say the ornaments were a hit right away, and several have been so popular that reorders have been necessary.

Three — the First United Methodist Church, Bankhead Home-Sunset and Walker County High School — are no longer available.

Others are available in limited quantities.

A new ornament is voted on each September, and an order for 500 ornaments is placed by October.

You can purchase an ornament from any member of the Pilot Club of Jasper, or by calling Pilot Club member Beckie Martin at (205) 221-8020.
