The Walker County Sheriff's Office recently kicked off an effort dubbed "Operation March Madness" that has resulted in 122 arrests for the month so far.

In the first week of March, 95 arrests were made by the patrol, narcotics, investigations, K9 and warrant divisions. The arrests were for felonies, misdemeanors, Sheriff’s Office warrants and people wanted by other agencies. Those arrests preceded 27 arrests that were made on Wednesday.

Narcotics operations Wednesday were kicked off with the capture of U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Joshua Wayne Burnett. After that, 30 officers from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office (patrol, K9, narcotics, SWAT, investigations and jail), Dora Police Department, Alabama Department of Corrections K9 Tracking Unit and Alabama State Probation (Walker County Office) divided up into four teams to simultaneously execute arrest warrants throughout the county. Drugs and stolen property were recovered during the arrests.

Investigators located an ATV that was stolen two days prior from the Parrish community. A 2019 Polaris Sportsman 850 Highlifter was recovered from inside a residence while conducting a warrant check on Ripley Court in Carbon Hill.

One of the arrest teams then had a vehicle flee from Carbon Hill to Jasper, then up Highway 5, but the suspect was quickly taken into custody. The Jasper Police Department assisted with the vehicle pursuit.
