Meet the Vikes set for Thursday

Posted

Jasper High School will hold its annual Meet the Vikes event on Thursday at Ki-Ro Gambrell Field.

That’s not all that’s on the docket for the Vikings this week.

On Friday, former Auburn head football coach Pat Dye will serve as the speaker at the kickoff auction fundraiser starting at 6 p.m. at the Jasper Civic Center.

Meet the Vikes begins at 5 p.m. Thursday with the junior high cheerleaders and players being recognized. A scrimmage will follow from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

The JV and varsity cheerleaders and players will be introduced starting at 6 p.m. with a scrimmage following from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a great event. This will give our fans a chance to see the upgrades to the stadium,” Jasper head coach Bryan Moore said.

Admission to the event is cleaning supplies and laundry detergent for the football team’s use during the season.

Along with a new artificial turf, Ki-Ro Gambrell Field has new fences, received a fresh coat of pain and an upgrade to the pressbox. The school is also working on putting in a new video screen that will be completed soon.

“It changes the complexity of the stadium,” Moore said of the upgrades. “It’s something the community can take pride in. Since last summer there have probably been more upgrades than the last 20 years combined.”

On Friday, the Vikings will hold their kickoff auction fundraiser at the Jasper Civic Center.

“We will have live and silent auction items. We are having a jet fly-over (at the home opener). One of the live auction items is for a co-pilot seat for the fly-over. That could be a bucket-list item for someone,” Moore said.

The event will also be a chance to hear Moore speak about the upcoming season.

“It will be a lot of fun. People are excited,” Moore said.

Tickets are still available for the event. A gold table (six tickets) is $500, includes seats close to the stage and a meet and greet with Pat Dye. A regular table (six tickets) is $250 and individual tickets are $40. For more ticket information, call Jasper High School at 221-9277.
