ARLEY — Gabe Jones rushed for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added an interception return for a score to lead Meek to a 36-14 home win over Brilliant on Friday night.
Meek (3-4 overall, 1-3 in region play) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking a 30-0 lead into the half.
Jones put the Tigers on the board in the first quarter when he took an interception 40 yards for a score at the 7:49 mark of the opening quarter. The two-point conversion put the Tigers up 8-0. Later in the quarter, Joseph Martin scored on a 20-yard run for a 16-0 lead. Jones added a 50-yard touchdown run and Stuart Waldrep connected with Caleb Aaron on an 11-yard strike to push the lead to 30-0 at the half.
Brilliant (2-4, 0-4) got touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to cut the gap to 30-14 before Meek added its final score on Jones’ 38-yard run.
Meek shut down Brilliant running game on the night, registering four sacks and holding the visiting Tigers to minus- 19 rushing yards.
For Meek, Waldrep completed 4 of 10 passes for 44 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Aaron had three catches for 31 yards and a score. Martin rushed five times for 33 yards and a touchdown while Matthew Clark had 27 yards on six rushes.
Meek plays at Pickens County next week.
