Jasper Mayor David O’Mary made a promise when first elected to have a transparent administration.

He’s holding true to that promise.

Beginning Friday, O’Mary will begin an online segment called ‘Mayor O’Mary Weekly,’ where he will answer questions concerning the city and its operations from residents living in Jasper.

Questions about the city can be posed to O’Mary beginning Thursday by going online to the city’s website at www.jaspercity. com and clicking on the link called ‘Mayor O’Mary Weekly.’

There you’ll be asked for your name, address, email address and phone number to verify that you live in Jasper. Questions must be limited to 500 characters.

O’Mary’s answers to the questions will be videotaped and posted on the city’s website on Friday mornings.

“During my time on the campaign trail, I heard people say they wanted to learn more about the city and its various functions,” O’Mary said.

O’Mary said the idea to host a weekly question-and-answer session online came from the mayor of Memphis, who hosts a similar event each week.

“I think this is going to be an excellent way to distribute information,” O’Mary said.

Not all questions posed will be answered, and any questions deemed offensive or argumentative will not be answered. “If it comes from a poison pen, it will not get any attention,” O’Mary said.
