Magnolia Nature School opens enrollment for Summer Day Camp and 2019-20

Posted

As the parent of a child who is ready for preschool, the responsibility feels huge. How do you encourage their physical and mental growth, yet foster the social emotional development for this small person you love so much? How do you teach them to respect others, the natural world, as well as themselves?  How do you find a program to do all this and yet safeguard your child daily?

Magnolia is the first nature-based school in Alabama. The next school year will be the fourth year for Magnolia to offer nature-based preschool and a Summer Day Camp. Magnolia Nature School is located at Camp McDowell, just on the Walker-Winston county border between Jasper and Double Springs.

Magnolia follows the Alabama state standards so that students are learning the same things that they would be in any other school, and through creative and inquiry-based practices that are state of the art. The student to teacher ratio of no more than five students to one teacher, is remarkable with typical classes in other schools have 18:1 or higher.  Magnolia strives to spend 80 percent of each day outdoors. Indoor classrooms are reserved for stormy or frigid cold days.

Each day is a new adventure in learning for students and teachers alike. The school's philosophy is that we are all teachers and we are all learners. Imagination and creativity are encouraged by exploring the natural world with the latest technology at our fingertips.

Magnolia now has both full-time and part-time slots open for children this summer and has added a Monday/Wednesday class.

To learn more about enrolling your preschool child or to set up a visit, contact Julie Camp, Director of Magnolia by calling (205) 387-1806 ext. 121, or send an email to Magnoliadirector@campmcdowell.com.

Enrollment is limited. The cost for full-time is $600/month. The 2-day program is $275. There are a few scholarships available. Visit their Facebook page by searching “Magnolia Nature School at Camp McDowell.”
