GURLEY — Corner’s season came to a disappointing end at Madison County High School on Friday night.

The region champion Tigers got a fourth-quarter touchdown to outlast the Yellow Jackets 21-14.

Madison County was in command through the first two quarters, taking a 7-0 lead into the half and pushing the lead to 14-0 with 8:33 left in the third quarter.

Corner got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Cole Burkett. The score was set up by two passes to Chanlder Brakefield by quarterback Colin Daniel that got the Jackets down to the five-yard line.

The Yellow Jackets drew even with the Tigers at the 11:24 mark of the final quarter when Joshua Myrick picked off a pass and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown to make the score 14-14.

Madison County punched in the game-winning score with 6:48 remaining in the game on a 5-yard touchdown run by Mekhi Burdett, who also had a 3-yard touchdown earlier in the game.

The Tigers (9-2) held on the rest of the way to earn their first playoff win since 2014 and advance to the second round.

Defensively for the Yellow Jackets, Cameron Blalock and Skylar Trawick had interceptions in the first half and Cole Fuller caused a fumble that was recovered by Myrick in the third quarter.

Corner closes the season at 7-4.
