Lynn’s Davis, SC’s Brown earn weekly honors


Lynn’s Jordan Davis helped set the tone in the Bears’ key region win over Meek last week.

The junior running back had more than 100 rushing yards by the end of the first quarter and finished the day with two touchdowns — while setting up a third — leading Lynn to a 28-12 victory and a 3-0 record.

On his second carry of the day, Davis broke through the Meek defensive line and bolted 60 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Davis’ next carry, on the first play of Lynn’s following possession, went 46 yards down to the Meek 5-yard line, setting up a touchdown two plays later. He added an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the game away, and also had a 27-yard touchdown called back on a penalty.

Davis is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Offensive Player of the Week.

He finished the game with 154 yards on 15 carries (an average of 10.2 yards per attempt). He now has 418 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season.


Defensive Player of Week,

Jeremy Brown, Sumiton Chr.

For the second time this season, Sumiton Christian got a stellar individual defensive effort, helping the team to a narrow victory in the region opener.

On Friday night, it was sophomore linebacker Jeremy Brown, who led the Eagles’ effort.

Brown camped out in the R.A. Hubbard backfield, registering eight tackies, including seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Brown also made a tackle for a safety in the third quarter, which proved to the difference in the game in a 27-26 Sumiton Christian victory.

For his efforts, Brown is the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Sumiton Christian takes a 2-0 record into a key region matchup with No. 4 Addison.


Other top performances

Sumiton Christian Eagles

Tanner Talley, Trevor Stokes and Chase Crane shined on offense in the Eagles’ 27-26 home win over R.A. Hubbard. Talley rushed 24 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns (2, 1). Stokes hauled in four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns (15, 62). Crane totaled 250 offensive yards, completing 15 of 23 passes for 203 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while also rushing six times for 47 yards.


Oakman Wildcats

Oakman leaned on sophomore running back Christian Hubbard in a 28-27 victory over Midfield last week. Hubbard rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns. He had touchdown runs of 1, 16 and 8 yards. On the defensive end, Nick Moody came through in the fourth quarter, helping preserve the win with his second interception of the night.


John Mark Abercrombie

Meek Tigers

The senior running back rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in the Tigers’ 28-12 loss to Lynn. Abercrombie, who has now rushed for 521 yards in three games this season.


Ethan Moore

Winston Co. Yellow Jackets

Winston County quarterback Ethan Moore threw for 208 yards and had a hand in three touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ 35-20 loss to Susan Moore. He had a pair of touchdown passes and added a touchdown run.


Javion Hill

Cordova Blue Devils

The Blue Devils’ running back had both of Cordova’s touchdowns in last week’s 41-12 loss to Winfield. Hill rushed 19 times for 115 yards and had scores of 1 and 25 yards.


Eric Millwood, Garrett Purvis

Corner Yellow Jackets

The Corner running back duo of Millwood and Purvis combined for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ 21-14 road victory at Fairview.
