The following is a summary of Christmas parades known at this date to be scheduled in the Walker County area this year:

• Double Springs will have its Christmas parade on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m., with line up at 5:30 p.m. at Double Springs Elementary School.

• Walker County's countywide Christmas parade, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, is set to take place in downtown Jasper on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m., with the deadline for entries set for 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.

A rain date for the parade, which has no entry fee, has been set for Thursday, Dec. 5.

Linda Lewis, president of the chamber, said lining up for the parade will start when the schools on Viking Drive let out that afternoon, although the official time is set for 4 p.m. Normally, Viking Drive is closed off at the top of the hill about a half hour before the parade starts.

All floats will be parked on the rear circular drive behind T.R. Simmons Elementary School, and float workers will park in front of the school. All other entries, including cars and ATVs, will be across the street at the Old Walker High School parking lot.

Before the parade, Santa will also greet children at the Jasper Civic Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Children and parents can meet him for free, getting candy canes, having children sit on his lap and, using the parents’ cameras, having their photo taken with him. Santa will have to leave at 6 p.m. to get his place in the parade.

Anyone who wants to have an entry in the parade needs to come to the chamber to fill out an application. While there, people can also be assigned their number in the parade, Lewis said.

She also encouraged anyone with any questions to call the chamber at 205-384-4571 or come by the chamber office at the civic center.

• Arley's Christmas parade will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at night, at 6 p.m. Line up will be at the Dollar General parking lot.

• The Oakman Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. The annual Christmas parade will immediately follow. Line up will be in the parking lot of Oakman Middle School.

• The 31st annual Christmas in Nauvoo will feature the 30th annual Christmas parade in the town, according to organizer Gene McDaniel. Miss Alabama will attend the event Saturday, Dec. 7, with the parade set for 10 a.m. The line up will start at 9 a.m. at the Old Slick Lizard Restaurant. Gene and Earline McDaniel, who own the Old Harbin Hotel in Nauvoo are inviting participants to come by the hotel for refreshments before and after the parade. Antique cars owners are also invited to bring their cars. Anyone wanting more information can call 205-697-5652.

• The East Walker Chamber of Commerce in Sumiton will hold its Christmas parade on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., with line up at 4:30 p.m. at Dora High School. You should enter from Highway 78, Glenn Grant Circle, next to Aldergate United Methodist Church.

Officials say on the entry form, available at eastwalkerchamber.com, that the route will proceed from Dora High down Sharon Boulevard, crossing U.S. Highway 78 onto Hull Road, turning right onto Main Street in Sumiton. It will then proceed down Main Street, turning right onto State Street and ending at Bevill State Community College at the Building 1200 parking lot.

There is no entry fee, but the chamber requests a $10 donation, excluding all school-related entries. Awards will be delivered to winners and not given at the end of the parade. Anyone wanting more information may go to the website or call 205-255-0202 or 205-915-4742.

• The Eldridge Christmas in the Country Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 14, as the parade is usually the second Saturday in December. Line up will start at 9 a.m. at Eldridge Town Hall. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. A complimentary chili lunch will be served after the parade. For more information, call Eldridge Town Hall at 205-924-4383.

• Carbon Hill will hold its Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m., with line up starting at 5 p.m. across from Bill and Son's by the rescue building. The city's tree lighting will be held Friday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m. Anyone wanting more information can call Anita Wood at 205-275-8475 or the police department at 205-924-4411.

• Cordova City Hall will hold the annual Downtown Christmas Parade on Dec. 17, starting at 6:30 p.m. The lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m in the Cordova High School parking lot. You may stop by City Hall and pick up a registration form or call and it be completed over the phone. More unique vehicles, such as Razors, ATVs and antique cars, are also eligible to participate. Anyone interested in entering a float may contact City Hall at 483-9266 to register.

The Parrish Town Council is still looking at dates, possibly on a weekend, for its parade, to avoid conflicts with other parades.  A Thursday, Dec. 5, date was discarded at Tuesday's meeting after it was revealed that date would conflict with the Oakman parade. The Parrish lineup had been set for 5:30 p.m. on Main Street, with the parade starting at 6:30 p.m. Vendors selling Christmas items is being planned at the high school area. Caryann Morgan will help to coordinate the parade.
