MOULTON — Lawrence County opened up a 20-0 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 37-14 win over Dora on homecoming in Moulton.

Lawrence County builds big lead, beats Dora

MOULTON — Lawrence County opened up a 20-0 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 37-14 win over Dora on homecoming in Moulton.

The Red Devils scored on the first play of the game when Brody Sparks hit Garrett Lee for 80 yards on a halfback pass. BenMichael Bennett kicked it to 7-0. After a Dora three and out, the Devils struck again quickly on a 3-yard run by Allen Johnson and a 14-0 advantage.

Lawrence County however wasn’t finished in the first quarter. Taking over at their own 19-yard line, it took two plays for quarterback Ty Hutto, who finished with 166 yards passing, to hit a streaking Kaden Edward for a 79 -ard scoring strike and a 20-0 lead. There was no scoring in the second quarter as the teams exchanged punts and turnovers.

Lawrence County (2-2, 2-1) found the end zone at the 5:26 mark of the third quarter when Gage Dutton scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 34 yard run and a 27-0 lead. Dutton finished the game with 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Dora (2-3, 0-3) finally got on the board late in the third quarter as Jamaal Harris capped a 62-yard drive with a 5-yard run on fourth down. Brady Spradlin add the extra point for a score of 27-7.

Dutton added his second score of the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run to extend the Devils lead to 34-7. Bennett added a 38-yard field goal at the 3:34 mark to extend the lead to 37-7. Dora added a late score when Ikea Hosea got loose for a 30-yard touchdown run. Spradlin kicked it to a final of 37-14.

Dora which implemented a new offensive look, has an open date next Friday before hosting Corner on Oct. 4.
