Lane family discovers their history at reunion

Posted

The Lane family had a reunion recently at the Curry Civic  Center.

Family members learned if their past thought research done by Robert (Bob) Lane from Utah. Family members heard history from 1630 when ancestors landed at Jametpwn Virginia. From there the Lanes scattered across the United States.

They also learned was they have had some very interesting people in the Lane clan. Gen. Joseph Lane was the one who captured Santa Anna after the raid on the Alamo in Texas. Also, many others were involved with the Texas Rangers and even one was a member of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid gang.

Many in the family never realized how much  the Lanes contributed to the development of Walker and Winston counties, as Lanes owned most of the land that is now Smith Lake.

Again, this history was all accomplished by the diligent work of Robert (Bob) Lane and family from Utah, who were present at the reunion. We urge we everyone to check your family history, as there is no telling what you may find.
