Jasper man charged with attempted murder of wife

A Jasper man has been charged with attempted murder after shooting his wife multiple times Wednesday night.

John Panter, 78, is being held at the Walker County Jail, Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood said Thursday.

The shooting occurred around 8:41 p.m. on Valleydale Drive in Jasper.

Gloria Panter, 76, called 911 and said that she had been shot by her husband, according to Underwood.

When deputies arrived, they found that Gloria Panter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was airlifted to UAB Hospital, where she was recuperating Thursday, Underwood said.
