James Truman Hudson, age 93, of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, Aug, 7, 2018, at his residence.
He was a faithful member and deacon of New Prospect Baptist Church. He enjoyed friendships formed with other members of the church and especially enjoyed working on the "Christian Life Center" building. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1945. He served in the 6th Army Medical Corps, 582nd Ambulance Company. The Company landed at Oran, North Africa in April 1943 and served in Italy for a short period then went into Southern France on August 25, 1943, then he was sent to Germany. After the death of his two brothers in WWII, he was sent home. From 1965-1973 he owned Sherer's Drive Inns in Mississippi. He returned to Jasper and retired from the coal mines, where he was known as "Kojak".
The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at New Prospect Cemetery. Delmus Anthony and Howard Thompson will officiate.
Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his wives, June Key, Helen Ingle McGaha, and Virginia Gant; parents, Tom and Cora Thomas Hudson; brothers, David and Craig Hudson who died in WWII and Lynn and Glenn Hudson; sisters, Hazel Randolph and Jean Davis; and son, Steve Hudson.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Hudson Wentz of Jasper; sonsm Jeff Hudson (Janice) of Jasper and Greg McGaha (Jeanette) of Waverly, TN; sisters, Delene Thomas of Chattanooga, TN, Elsie Cottrell of Huntsville, AL, and Peggy Brooks of Tupelo, MS; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael McGaha, Chris Harris, Steven Hudson, Sean Buchanan, David Morsch and Steve Morsch. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of New Prospect Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to New Prospect Baptist Church Food Closet.
