Carbon Hill jumped out to a huge halftime lead and cruised to a 54-37 victory over Lamar County in their Class 3A, Area 10 Tournament opener Monday at Winfield High School.

Carbon Hill jumped out to a huge halftime lead and cruised to a 54-37 victory over Lamar County in their Class 3A, Area 10 Tournament opener Monday at Winfield High School.
 
With the victory, Carbon Hill clinched a spot in next week’s sub-region playoffs. The Bulldogs play Winfield at 6 p.m. Thursday in the area tournament championship game.
 
The winner hosts a sub-region game while the loser travels.
 
Three other area girls teams picked up wins on Monday.
 
Addison and Sumiton Christian both punched their tickets to the playoffs while Dora kept its season alive.
 
Addison topped Sulligent 63-58 in overtime and Sumiton Christian defeated Vincent 50-36. In a first-round game, Dora knocked off Corner 41-24. The Bulldogs must beat top seeded Mortimer Jordan today to earn a playoff berth.
 
Against Lamar County, Carbon Hill led 12-4 after the first quarter and 31-6 at the half. Three players combined for 52 of Carbon Hill’s 54 points.
 
Zana Aderholt had 20, including 12 in the first half, Ally Martin had 17 points and 10 assists, Alayna Ivie added 15, Bailey Kelley had two points and 11 rebounds and Alleigh Keeton had 10 rebounds and three steals.
 
“This was the best first half we have played in a long time here,” Carbon Hill coach Wade Tittle said. “We had a lot of energy, made shots and rebounded so I’m very proud to be moving on.”
 
Carbon Hill has been to the postseason eight of Tittle’s 12 years as head coach. 
 
Winfield advanced with a 69-31 victory over Oakman.

Haleyville 44, Curry 29
 
The season came to an end for the Curry girls on Monday night as Yellow Jackets fell to Haleyville 44-29 in their Class 4A, Area 11 Tournament game at Fayette County High School.
 
Curry led 9-5 after the opening quarter before Haleyville took control. The Lions led 23-16 at the half and 31-21 after three quarters.
 
For the Jackets, Allie Downs had nine points, Emma Martin added six, Grayson Evans had five points, Laycee Cordell and Abbey Moon each put in four and Anna Reese Woodley added a point.
 
Curry closes the season 18-9.
